The aim of this project is to link people together who share a common ancestor in the direct male (Y) line and who at the same time trace their most distant know Y-DNA ancestor back to the county of Ross-shire (Ross and Cromarty).

Many people who have ancestors in this area bear Scottish clan surnames. However these were groups of people who often adopted the surname of the chief even if they were not related to him. Therefore it will be helpful to people in the research to find out the not only the surnames but specific locations of their ancestor's relatives within the county.
