To date, we have only one DNA sample submitted to the Renfro DNA Project, but we already seem to have the answer to one of our "goal questions". By checking other publicly available databases, I have found one other Y-DNA sample from a Renfrew line in Scotland. A comparison of 12 markers has shown that our "Renfro" participant DOES NOT MATCH this "Renfrew" from Scotland. Though it may not be prudent to draw too many conclusions from such a limited sampling, these intial findings seem to indicate there are mulitiple, unrelated families bearing variant spellings of the Renfro name. As we attract more participants, it will be interesting to see if this theory holds true and how many seperate lines there may be.
