About us

I started researching the Reichard surname after hearing a story about the origination of the Jewish branch of the Reichard family. The story originates in Hungary the mid to late 1700's and indicates that the first Jewish Reichard was a German nobleman traveling through Hungary who became sick or injured in a forest. He was found by a Rabbi and his daughter who brought him back to health. He then converted and married the Rabbbi's daughter. I have researched all Jewish Reichards and their relatives that I could find and have just (7/2005) added my database (over 3000 names)to the Jewishgen site. My grandfather had also indicated that we were Kohanim. Both stories could be correct if the Rabbi's daughter had children by a Kohane prior to marrying this Reichard. All Jews were required to take surnames in the late 1700's in Hungary and hence her children could have taken his name.
