Almost all Rameys, Remeys, and other spellings of the name, in North America are said to be descendants of Jacob Remy, a Frenchman who was in Westmoreland County, Virginia, by 1661. For this reason, the Y chromosome of all male Rameys should be nearly identical. Jacob had two sons, no daughters. There are now thousands of Ramey families in the United States.
