About us
Descendants Surname Project of the Ramadanids Dynasty which ruled the Ramadan Emirate in Middle Turkey from 1352 to 1608 CE. Named after Shiekh Ramadan (C. 13th Century CE.) son of Yuregir, chief of the Ucok Tribe who came to Anadol with Suleiman Shah and his son Ertugrul.
The 1934-1936 Turkish surname change law disallowed use of "Zade" suffix (meaning son of royal house), therefore the paternal family surname Ramadanzade ceased to exist in 1934. Different variations of the name have surfaced with some family members opting to select a new last name.
The surname change also allowed non-family members to select Ramazanoglu if they wished. Which had non-paternal members becoming Ramazanoglu.
The burning of all personal records of Ramazanoglu ancestors prior to 1936 made it difficult to pinpoint who is a family member and who is not.
Today, a good number of listed family members who are paternal descendants of Isfandiarzade and HassanPasaZade have decided to select Ramazanoglu instead. It is also said that a few Ramazanoglu members who claim to be from the family are not related from either the paternal or maternal line.
Samer Ramazanoglu, the administrator of this group has been researching and working to complete a book on the Ramadanids Dynasty, and hopes that connecting family members to construct the greater family tree thru the help of DNA would be the final chapter.
