With more than 20 Big Y members at its inception, the project aims to pursue the currently unknown common ancestors of the many haplogroups nested within R-YP658. It is possible that all branches in the United States share a common ancestor who immigrated within a genealogical time frame. The connection to lineages in the Netherlands might pre-date this time frame, but as more members upgrade to Big Y, it is possible that a more ancient connection might also be revealed.
