About us

Goals: Find common ancestors, connect Prouse/Prowse of all spellings, identify the specific YDNA haplogroups for each line to assist others in their search. All Prouse, Prowse, Prose, Prouz, Sprouse, etc. are welcome! If you have a Prouse/Prowse match in your YDNA results, join us! Just because we are focussed on YDNA, please be assured we welcome autosomal testers (Family Finder and transfers from other DNA sites) of both genders. Use this Project as a springboard to connect! There are Prouse/Prowse families from England, Wales, Australia, Canada, France, and the United States. Who are our common ancestors? Where did then emigrate from? How did we end up with the spelling we now use in our distinct lines? One history: In France, 20 minutes or 16.2 km north east of Rouen, France there is a village of Préaux from where it is believed the name Prouse takes it name. One line of Prouse/Prowse families appear to descend from Rollo a Norwegian Viking born about 848 who gained control over Rouen and the nearby Normandy vicinity - encouraged by the then king of France to hald Rollo's raiding. Rollo and his descendants contributed to the rich history of what is now Normandy. In 1066, William the duke of Normandy, a descendant of Rollo, invaded and eventually conquered England. He brought at least one Preaux with him.
