About us

The Paul Project is a public access project which totally depends on the participation of Paul-surname males who are willing to share their DNA results, and information about their earliest Paul ancestor, for the purpose of furthering research on the origins of the Pauls. As a male patrilineal surname project, this project relies on Y testing to function — only the Y test can follow the family name over hundreds of years, back to, and beyond the point where surnames first came into use about 1000 years ago. The purpose of this Project is to enable a longer view into Paul patrilineal ancestry. All members should encourage male relatives (and friends) with the Paul surname to take a Y test (Y37, Y67, Y111 or Big Y) and add to the base of knowledge about the origins of the Pauls, MtDNA and Autosomal tests on their own bring nothing to the project. If you're not happy to make your results public, please do not ask to join this project.
