About us

The Oberst Family - Worldwide DNA Project was started to:

1. Help Oberst Family researchers from around the world to find their shared heritage when paper trails are no longer possible and primary source documents have run out. DNA data can be a powerful adjunct to traditional sources and is indispensable when those traditional sources dry up.
2. Identify participant family genetic connections and connecting previously unconnected family lines. Tracing ancestors back in time can be a daunting and formidable task and locating their ancestral home might be impossible after many generations. DNA data can link someone to a ancestor where a huge body of genealogical data already exists, such as the "Oberst" line.
3. Confirm worldwide genetic lineages of ancestral families in Germany and Switzerland, and connections to families that migrated to countries like Austria, Hungry, England, Canada, America, Argentina, Chile, Russia and many other countries from around the world. This is especially true for South America. Many of my Oberst ancestors emigrated to Argentina and Chile. There are many "Obersts" in the Buenos Aires phone directory, the city where my great-great uncle Karl Oberst emigrated to. By identifying a connection these South Americans can be certain of their heritage. DNA data will also help identify when a linkage, in terms of generations took place.
4. Make friends with some pretty wonderful people from around the world and identify cousins and blood relations in other countries and locals.

This project also has the benefit of introducing Oberst family members and researchers to what a Genealogical DNA Test is and how easy it is to participate. With the results already obtained you may be able to link into a large body of family history research which has already been accomplished.
