About us
The O'Donovan Clan Y DNA project is for anyone who has or is related to anyone with any variations of the Ancient Gaelic Surname O'Donovan.
You may now be Donovan, Dunivan, Donevan, Donndubhain, Dhonnabháin, Donevant, Donvan. The O'Donovan's had a Clan reunion in Ireland in 2000, and one in Boston in 2005. At the 2000 Reunion in Co. Cork, near Castle Donovan one of our ancient castles there were over 500+ people from many countries, including ; Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, the United States, and even some from South America. So we welcome you all...
We welcome anyone to join us in finding their roots or family through the use of DNA testing, while we also will have some links provided for online research and interesting reading.
Those of us who have done some DNA testing have found that if you join a project it will save you money. Also if you join the different DNA testing sites at various times throughout the year you can save money, when they run sales. Most will also let you transfer the results for a fee. Example: If you were originally tested by site 23andme, you can transfer your results to Family Tree Maker DNA, again for a fee.
If you do decide to be tested for DNA, most people start with the YDNA testing, since most males in a family tree keep their surname down through the ages. The testing can be done for different levels starting with 12 thru 111. Once you get your initial tests back, the testing centers will send you your results and also matches to your DNA. I would highly recommend testing at the minimum of 37 but 67 is more desirable and will save you money in the long run.
You may now, also join other groups that may be associated with your family tree or the geographic area your family is from. In Addition to the O'Donovan Clan Y DNA project, you may want to join the Ireland DNA, Munster DNA(one of the 4 ancient provinces) there is a long list...
Again Welcome, this is a new site and if anyone has interesting sites or info to help us, please E - mail any of the administrators.
