About us
The project seeks to curate all the haplogroups (or branches on the tree of mankind) represented by Mountain Jews both paternally and maternally through Y-DNA and mtDNA. Doing so will allow us to locate founding Jewish lineages among members who share a recent common ancestor. In addition, the project conducts macro analysis of the Jewish population in the Caucasus through autosomal DNA.
DNA sequences (or ‘haplotypes’) may allow us to map the origins and migration routes of our ancestors. While the dominant tradition held by Mountain Jews says that Jews arrived at the Caucasus from Persia or Babylonia, there are alternative versions that suggest migration from the west and perhaps even from the north.If you are interested in contributing to the research, please be sure to update the information on your earliest known ancestry including points of origin (you can do so by going to Account Settings à Genealogy à Earliest Known Ancestry).
מטרת הפרויקט היא למצוא ולסווג את כל השושלות האבהיות והאימהיות לקבוצות בסיס הנקראות "הפלוגרופ" (haplogroup) להן שייכים יהודים הרריים על סמך בדיקות כרומוזום Y ודנ"א מיטוכונדריאלי. ניתוח הסמנים הגנטיים מאפשר מציאת אבות או אימהות קדמונים משותפים בקירבה של עד כמה דורות ספורים. בנוסף, הפרויקט עורך ניתוח של כלל האוכלוסיה בעזרת דנ"א אוטוזומלי ומחפש קירבה גנטית לקבוצות אתניות אחרות בקווקז ובמזרח-התיכון.
רצף הדנ"א (או 'הפלוטיפ') של חברי הפרויקט יכול למפות את מוצא השושלות ונתיבי ההגירה שלהן. למרות שלפי המסורת, יהודי הקווקז המזרחי הגיעו לקווקז ישירות מפרס ומבבל, ישנן מסורות אחרות על הגירה ממערב ויתכן שגם מצפון.
