Which of the various Motz, Moats, Motes, Moates and Moatz families share a common heritage, and can we use genetic methods to determine the origins and the linkages between the various families under study by genealogists in the United States?
The project began with the relatively narrow aim of discovering how/if the various Motes and Moats families in the Southern region of the United States are related, but this project is now expanding into a new phase where all Motz, Moats, Motes, Moates, Moatz descendants are encouraged to explore their origins and connections.
- John and Marvin Motes from Chillicothe, Ohio originally established this DNA project to determine the family tree beginning with Jacob Moats born 1745 of Franklin, WVA.
- Phil Goff assumed the admin role in December 2021.
