About us
The Morey Project is open to all who are interested inworking together to find their common heritage through sharing of informationand DNA testing. Ancestry uncertain? Here's the opportunity to establishscientifically what the paper trail could not. A major goal of thisproject is to put Morey (and similar names) families in touch with theirgenetic cousins, to sort Morey descendants into groups of related families todetermine the place of origin for each group, and to identify distant branchesof families belonging to a single group. As thisproject carries on the work of the late Geoffrey Williams and many other Moreyresearchers, it is really a one-name study more than a one-family study--Moreyfamilies have various origins, including England, France, and Germany.
The Project includes a Huguenot Maury family that fled France because of religious persecution since the Revocationof the Edicts of Nantes. This family isknown to have origins in Gascony, France, but there is little else known of thefamily in France. Participation in theDNA study may help uncover new details of this family and may help others withsimilar names to identify Gascony as their ancestral home.
Y-DNA tests are for straight paternal lines and should be taken by males whobears the Morey surname or one of its variant spellings. Those will be theeasiest tests for us to analyze. However, we also welcome Morey descendants whodo not have the surname. Perhaps MtDNA and autosomal (Family Finder) tests willhelp us identify further relationships! We also welcome Y-DNA testees withother surnames whose Y matches prove to be mainly Moreys.
All variant spellings are welcome. If your surname is missing and should beincluded, we'll be glad to add it.
