The Morettin International Registry, compiled from public information, lists 228 families having the Morettin surname.  These families are distributed across five countries in Europe, the USA, and Canada.  Morettin families also exist in South America.  Given the known quasi-global Morettin migration, the Morettin Surname Project has the following goals:

• To determine the genetic relationship among the various Morettin families that exist worldwide,
• To confirm the place of origin prior to 1750 AD, thought to be North Eastern Italy in what is known today as the region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia,
• To identify pre-surname migration
• To confirm that variant surnames are family
• To find the common heritage; i.e., the most recent common ancestor

The intent is to realize these goals through Y-DNA analysis.
