About us
This project began when John McCartney collected a few McCartney YDNA test results from various sources and developed a spreadsheet to compare the results in the hopes of finding matches to his own results. By developing the project at FTDNA, we want to utilize their tools to provide a global collection point for those possessing the McCartney surname (or some similar spelling) and who have YDNA test results available at FTDNA. When a match is found, a Lineage group will either be created or your results will be added to an existing one.
In order for the adminstrator(s) to work with you and your data, please give the project administrator(s) at least Limited Access to your data, although Full Access would be even better for our use and is what was previously allowed before the 2018 privacy restrictions were enacted.
Others who were fathered by a McCartney are welcome into the project. Those who do not have a McCartney in their YDNA father-line and are merely researching a McCartney in their ancestry may join the project, contribute their McCartney-line genealogy, and use the publicly-accessible data in the project, however their YDNA tests results will not be included in the project tables.
This site is continually under development and will expand as new members are added to the project. Some of the sections of the project currently contain no descriptive text and may not even appear in the project, but will be developed as members are added and data accumulates.
We encourage members to interact with each other and with the administrators by using relevant user-based parts of the project, such as the Activity Feed shown on the left side of the project's home page or by contacting the project administrator at the email address shown below or want to contact another user. Because of privacy restrictions, the administrator will need to contact the other person to get their permission to send their email address to you or, alternately, give your email address to them so they can contact you.
Please provide your YDNA lineage back to your oldest known McCartney ancestor so we can establish a collection of lineages to which other members might link or extend the lineage. These lineages are shown in the Bulletin section of this project.
