About us

My husband Dolby R. Marple and I went to Philadelphia, PA in August 1997 to find the grave of David Marple. Kenneth Marple had given us the instruction and direction.
David is buried in the old part of the cemetey of the Pennepack Baptist Church, on the rim of Pennepack Park in Northeast Philadelphia, 8732 Krewstown Road, Bustleton, PA 19115. The church is considered "the mother of Baptist churches," the oldest in Pennsylvania and seventh oldest in the United States.
The headstone reads: "Here Lyeth The Body of David Marple, who departed this Life October 7, 1739, Aged 75 Years." The gravesite next to him doesn't have a marker, possibly this could be his wife Jane Marple.
Directions: Facing church right side forty two steps out back, one to left 90%. We hope to replace the headstone to David's grave, since the information is slowly dissapearing with time.
Other graves were David Marple 1780 and Elizabeth 1784 . Parallel fifteen steps, one step to right to road . Then Jesse Marple.
David Marple's will is recorded in the Doylestown, Pa. Courthouse. (1256923)

JUNE 5, 2004, we attended the 316th Anniversary of the Pennepack Baptist Church. While there we were hoping to add the new gravestone along side of the old one. Unfortunately we didn't take our pictures with us that we had taken of the stone in 1997. The inscription was so weathered and unreadable that there was no way to identify the stone.
After looking at our old pictures when we got home, we can now proceed with having a new stone made. It will be made according to whatever the Board of Pennepack Church suggests.
As of October 2004 a new stone is in place which reads: "Here Lyeth The Body of David Marple Who Entered This Life In 1664 In Radnorshire, Wales Married Jane Marple Nee Unknown Departed This Life October 7, 1739. Erected By Dolby Richard Marple 7th generation grandson 2004.
June 1, 2009 the "Olde Pennepack Baptist Church" celebrated it's 320th anniversary.
