For many years I have been doing genealogical research and I became fascinated with DNA and its role in tracing our roots. Although the name Marcil is not uncommon in Quebec, it is fairly rare in France and Belgium. Because I have found that many men in France and Belgium who share the Marsille/Marsil/Marcil surname are located in a reasonable geographic area around Artois/Flanders, I suspect that we all share common ancestry. The wars between Spain and France caused great upheaval in the area (the reason Andre Marsille went to Quebec) so it is not strange to find Marsille men scattered around the region.
