The purpose of this project is to compare Y-DNA of direct-male-line Mangums (and variants) with the goals of defining the various American Mangum lineages and determining the immigrant ancestor(s). If you are interested in this project, please submit a join request with a brief explanation of qualification. To qualify, the tester will need to have completed a Y-DNA test and feel that he either is or may be a direct-male-line Mangum. Once the join request has been approved, the administrator will be able to evaluate the kit and compare the information to others in the group. If it turns out that the tester is not actually a genetic Mangum, perhaps due to something such as past adoption, name change, or misattributed parentage, the administrator will notify him of this and suggest a different direction of research focus.
