About us
I created MANFREDA surname project group for all persons related to this italian surname that was traced to its source in Padua a city of northern Italian on the River Bacchiglione, anciently known as Patavium, and then Padova. The names Manfreda, Manfredi, Mafredo, Manfredini ... are all variations on the name Manfreda and all share the same origin, related to Langobards. The Manfreda family originated in Padua. They branched into Bologna, Cremona, Florence, Reggio-Emilia, Sicily, Taranto, Treviso, Venice and Verona where they held lands and estates. From their early beginnings, the family name also acquired other interests as branches of this fine old southern Italian family established themselves throughout Italy. Surname MANFREDA today is the most common in Puglia, Calabria, Basilicata and Lombardia.
First to me known Manfreda (Martin Mofreda) in Slovenia was from Kanalski Lom from 1507, before that I have no evidence for presence of this SURNAME there. It is not clear if Martin Mofreda was MANFREDA or MONFREDA. But today majority are Manfreda. And near village Kanalski Lom, there is a hamlet named Manfredi. The highest number of MANFREDA is near Tolmin, Idrsko-Kobarid, Idrija pri Bači.
PERSONAL name Manfredo is written in document from 1284: Storia religiosa del Distretto di Tolmino. Manfredo was educated and linked with people who were near to Patriarca Raimondo Della Torre, who was the owner of a castle in Tolmin.
