About us

The Malan Family Project is open to all people with the surname Malan, Mallan and other variants thereof who can trace there origins back to Europe. The purpose of the project is to study the genetic relationship between the people of Europe with the surname Malan and it's variants. Most of the current members of the group are South African descendants of Jacques Malan who fled from France in 1688. Y-DNA Big Y testing has shown that the South African Malans belong to the R-CTS12976 haplogroup. New members are advised to do at least a Y-DNA37 test. If you can afford it a Y-DNA111 test will be better since a Y-DNA111 test has been done for all the South African Malans.
