About us

The Major surname project began as a Y-DNA only study project with just one tester in 2005. In the years since then the project has grown to 70+ members and has defined five separate family lineages so far. The project’s public web site was originally hosted by worldfamilies.net which closed down in May 2018 at which time these pages transferred to the Family Tree web site.

The Major project membership grew in the earliest years thanks in large part to the recruiting efforts of Herb Hendricks whose Major family lived in colonial Charles City Co., VA, a locality with significant loss of records.

As the project has grown, with more members and more data, new family lines have emerged which in turn increases the chances of new testers finding a match and their own family’s lineage and possible origin.

In a DNA project, the more participants, the better.
More project participants means better odds of finding family origins for all project members.

If your are a Major family descendant, please join us in using DNA to supplement, extend and expand your family tree.
