About us

Welcome to the MACE Y-DNA surname project.

Any and all males who carry the MACE surname (and spelling variants) are welcome to join this project. As this is a surname project, and only males have a Y-chromosome, only males can be tested for this purpose. If you are female, you can have a male relative submit a sample on behalf of your line, as long as he still carries the MACE surname.

If you are interested in another type of DNA test offered by FTDNA, just let the project administrator know when you 'request' to join.

If you have interest in the project, but don't wish to actively participate, donations are most welcome. If you wish to make a monetary donation, please go here, the directions are easy to follow but if you have any questions please contact the project administrators.

Where did our MACE ancestors come from?

In the available census records for 1790 in the USA, the index at Ancestry.com lists 32 MACE households. In 1800 it shows 31. By 1810 there are 59. In 1820 77 MACE households are listed. In 1830 there are 108. The 1840 census index at Ancestry.com lists 170 MACE households. By 1850 1,223 individuals carrying the MACE surname are listed.

MACE immigrants to the USA came from several countries across the Atlantic Ocean, including England, France, Ireland, Germany and Scotland . These patterns may also be representative of countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

With just 7 participants in the MACE Y DNA project we have already proven there are multiple sources for the MACE surname. If we are lucky enough, we may be able to remove some brick walls, and possibly even tie MACE branches together that currently are established in different countries.
