About us
The Loving surname in America seems first to have appeared in Virginia in the early 1600s. The family spread across Virginia. By the 1700s descendants migrated to North and South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. They continued to move west with many settling in Texas.
The surname spelling changed in many records and localities. Loven and Lovin was common. Lovan became the spelling with some families in Kentucky. Lovern or Lovvorn was sometimes used in Georgia.
The absence of records makes it difficult to trace many of these families or connect individuals to family lines. The problem is compounded by Loving families using the same given names.
YDNA will help us find out which lines we descend from.
