Hello, Just Joined the group. Looks like my grandpa, Earl Imes Linville, is the last generation updated on the site within my paternal line. I was wondering if there have been any other updates that are not on the site yet or any plans for future publications. Donated my DNA to the project and was also wondering if there was any research being done on family health. -Matt

My "Confirmed Haplogroup is R-CTS4065"....What does this mean? Any significance to this project?

Hi, Michael. The "Linville" confirmed Y-DNA haplogroup is R-Z156. Since your Linville line comes through a female first before it gets to the Y-DNA connection to the surname, your haplogroup would be to the Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, etc. line. You definitely want to "join" both the surname project (if there is one for Thomas) AND the haplogroup project. You want to look for Y-haplogroup projects in the listing. R is a HUGE group - most prominent in Europe, but it has some interesting and very detailed twists and turns before surnames came into usage. The Linville Y-DNA is in the same boat. There is a LOT of Y testing going on now both with current and ancient DNA. The haplogroup administrators are doing a good job of keeping up with it all -- much more than surname group administrators can! Thanks for asking!
