The Linnell Surname was common in London from the 1550's on tied to artisan trades such as printing, furniture making, and painting.  The largest concentration of Linnells are located in western Northamptonshire.  The surname was spelled Luuel, Luvel, Lovel and Lunel from 1181 to about 1366 and they were the lords of Farthingstone and Kislingbury.
