About us
Lifshitz (and it's many spelling variations) is a common Ashkenazi Jewish surname, found in families who appear to have lived all over Eastern Europe. This project seeks to use genetics to learn which of these many Lifshitz families are related to each other, since records currently don't provide us with enough information.
The family finder test or transfering your autosomal DNA from other companies (Ancestry, 23andMe, MyHeritage) can provide a basic Y-DNA haplogroup. However, the 37-marker test is strongly recommended as a minimum - since it gives the best resolution for genealogical purposes at a reasonable cost.
