The Marble Surname DNA Project was initiated in early 2013 by Gerry Dean Getman.
Gerry passed away suddenly in 2017 and the project was without an administrator for several years.
Since July 2023 the project is being administered on a caretaker basis by the administrators of the R-Z198 Haplogroup Project.
Gerry's original introduction to the project follows below.
The Marble Surname Project was established for males with any spelling of the Marble surname and any females in The Marble Family.
The availability of inexpensive DNA testing for genealogical and ancestry investigation purposes will help unravel some of the mysteries of our origins that cannot be accomplished with traditional genealogical research.
Gerry D. Marble, the FTDNA Group Administrator for this project and Clyde Marble have established a genealogy database for persons with the surname Marble in The United States and other surnames for families closely aligned over the years with the Marble family. The Marble Database currently contains thousands of family members with the surname of Marble (all spellings) and their descendants. The Marble Database has been constructed using all known genealogical and family history publications as well as via basic research using census data, vital records, land records, wills, etc. In addition, The Levi Marble Database has been recently been formally published: “Genealogy of The Marble Family of New York State With a Focus on Levi (1775) Marble and Catherine Quackenbush Descendants Including Caleb Marble”. This book is available from the Author, Gerry D. Getman, (ggetman1@earthlink.net). The book may be used as a research tool for the Marble DNA Project. A CD which contains the background and research data is available from Amazon or the author.
DNA testing for Marble family is in its infancy. We encourage all Marble’s to join this Marble DNA project.
Levi Marble was born approximately 1775. We do not know his parents. He married Catherine Quackenbush from Fonda New York and had his first child in Fonda NY. Levi was a pioneer of New York State and we have his migration across New York eventually ending in Cattaraugus County NY. We have complete information for his descendants. However, we do not know his ancestors.
John Marble (1605) the immigrant is the son of Samuel Marble. He came to America before 1645 and he married Judith. His children are Ruhamah, John, Samuel, Joseph, Thomas, Gershom. The overall object of this project is to link these various family lines in order that we have a better understanding of all descendant lines of John the immigrant. We will add secondary objectives to remove each member's brick walls as new members join the project.
My particular brick wall is Levi Marble's (1775) father.
