About us
Legacy Reclaimed Project
We are working to identify clusters of descendants who connect to each other and breaking down the brick walls that resulted from enslavement and other estrangements. We're still organizing and planning and we have several experienced and serious researchers involved.
Our project currently includes:
--Over 200 atDNA tests on gedmatch for people whose enslaved ancestors have ties to Northeastern Mississippi Counties: Tishomingo, Alcorn, Itawamba, Prentiss, Tippah.
--Over 100 atDNA tests on gedmatch for people whose enslaved ancestors have ties to Northern Alabama counties: Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan.
--Over 100 atDNA tests on gedmatch for Africans or direct descendants of known Africans from several ethnic groups and modern day African Countries. Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, South Sudan, Benin, Burkina Faso.
--Our FTDNA project includes 60 yDNA with another 35 yDNA tests in progress (as of January 2022). We also have over 10 mtDNA tests. We continue to fundraise to provide opportunities for project members to receive reduced price or free yDNA tests; which we will use to further confirm and disprove lines.
If you have already tested, please join our project by uploading your atDNA test from ancestry.com, 23andme, or myheritage to familytreedna.com (or add your yDNA or mtDNA familytreedna results) to our FTDNA project.
We would like to connect with people have full African Ancestry (they, their parents, and/or all 4 of their parents were born on the African continent - and they know their African ethnic groups). We already have several added to the project and will work with members to help them learn more about their African matches.
