About us

Lefler immigrants have been documented in many colonial cities of America during the 1700s. Very little has happened to show any family commonality. There is a great deal of circumstantial evidence such as common names and geographical proximity. John Lefler was born in 1758 in Greenwich,NJ, according to his own testimony in his Revolutionary War pension application. At that time there was a Jacob Loeffler living in Greenwich who is so listed as a member of the German Lutheran Church across the Delaware River at Morgan Hill. Are they also related? In the 1780s there are several Johns, Philip, Christophers, David, Abraham, Georges, Jacobs, all living along the Delaware River in NJ and in Pa. A number of them later appear in the Finger Lakes region of NY(Seneca County).Other Leflers went to Va and Ohio and on. Were they of one family? A Philip b. 1784 named his first son, John Jacob b. 1808,NJ. Was the Christopher b. 1811 a son of Philip b. 1784 as well, and named for a possible brother Christopher b. 1791? Was Jacob b. 1795 another brother? And what about the other John family in Straw Church and the other Christopher family? Already several people have been disappointed by this apparent and real confusion. There is a need for this project and there is a continuing need for people with information to gather it together
