Welcome to the LEEPER Y-DNA surname project.

Any and all males who carry the LEEPER/LEIPER surname (and spelling variants) are welcome to join this project. As this is a surname project, and only males have a Y-chromosome, only males can be tested for this purpose. If you are female, you can have a male relative submit a sample on behalf of your line, as long as he still carries the LEEPER surname.  Since Y-DNA goes back much farther than Autosomal testing, and doesn't divide, it can be extremely useful when trying to work out family trees, and figuring out where the surname came from.

If you are interested in another type of DNA test offered by FTDNA, just let the project administrator know when you 'request' to join.  I know many folks have Leeper Ancestors, and discussion amongst members in the Activity Feed can be quite useful for all of our research!  Autosomal DNA matching can be quite useful for discovering recent ancestors, though it gets a bit more difficult to use it in the 1700's.
