About us
The Laframboise DNA Project seeks to assist families and genealogists in identifying the origin surname and establishing connections where conventional genealogical techniques fall short due to gaps in records or family history. The Laframboise name began as a dit name for multiple distinct surnames, and over time, many families officially adopted it as their sole surname, resulting in at least nineteen (19) distinct families using the dit name.
The first phase of this project, which began in 2003 by Ron Ohlfs, aimed to identify the genetic groupings of four origin families (Fry-Franche, Fafard, Desvoyau/Devoyau, and Guilbert) by testing known direct line descendants. The early test results, which are still part of the project, primarily consist of Y-DNA12 tests and lack the high resolution necessary for detailed groupings. Therefore, the next phase will focus on increasing the resolution of the tests and expanding participation to a wide range of living ancestors.
Participants with variant spellings of the surname are strongly encouraged to join to broaden the scope of genetic information available. The known surname spellings include Laframboise, LaFramboise, La Framboise, Laframbois, Framboise, Lafromboise, LaFromboise, La Fromboise, Lafrombois, LaFrombois, La Frombois, LaFranboise, La Franboise, Laflambois, LaFromboy, LaFlombois, Rosbury, Berry, Rosbery, Rosberry, and Raspberry.
The project's objectives are to identify ancestral origins, discover unknown family connections, and clarify disputed genealogical information. Moreover, participants can benefit from collaborating with others who share their surname and genetic history. By joining the Laframboise DNA Project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing body of genetic information, uncover your ancestral roots, and connect with genetic relatives who share your surname.
In summary, we welcome all variant spellings of the surname to join the Laframboise DNA Project and participate in a collaborative effort to uncover the genetic history and origins of the Laframboise family.
