About us

Many things have been written and said about the Kolokotronis family and its most famous member: Theodoros Kolokotronis. It is a known fact that the surname Kolokotronis was initially a nickname for Theodoros's grandfather Yiannis Kolokotronis, who's paternal side were of men with the surname Tserginis. Several male descendants of Kolokotronis and Tserginis families have been tested and belong to the Y DNA Haplogroup I-M253 and/or a subclade within I-M253. This is a rare haplogroup for Greek men. It has been determined that many from the Tserginis family carry a linguistically evolved version of the name: Tzortzinis This project has two objectives: 1. To validate this is the Y Haplogroup of the Kolokotronis/Tserginia clan; meaning those males descended from male descendants of Triantaphyllos Tserginis and/or Yiannis Kolokotronis. 2. To bring back together, confirmed with DNA, what was a tight knit family who fought for centuries for their freedom, and eventually the freedom of all of Greece and produced one of modern Greece's greatest heroes: Theodoros Kolokotronis.
