This project is not only to track the Surname Klaas & Tiemann but to also include those other Surnames that have their roots in Lippe, Germany, especially Kohlstaad & Schlangen. Because of the German practice of changing Surnames with land transfer or inheritance, surnames can change several times over a few generations, as did the Klaas ancestor who bought the Tiemann farm in Kohlstaad. Note his brothers remained Klaases. I have found several of these Surname changes while doing research in Lippe, a Budde to Schroeder, a Schaffer to Klaas, an Altimicus to Wulfkuhle just to name a few.
