About us
This project is for descendants of John Daniels of New London, Connecticut and includes both Y-DNA and Autosomal DNA. Members must have taken either a Y-DNA test or an Autosomal DNA test. The project goal is to identify the genetic family tree of John Daniels descendants through DNA connections and to share genealogical information through family trees. Members are encouraged to upload their family tree to their FamilyTree DNA account. John Daniels was b. Abt. 1640 and he d. Bet. 1709 and Jul 1710; he was in New London by April 1663 when he received his initial land grant as John Daniel. John Daniels married Mary Chappell, daughter of George Chappell on 19 January 1664/65. They had nine children and the births/baptisms of all, with the exception of their son, Clement were recorded in New London Vital Records and Church records. Land records identify Clement as a son of John Daniels. The majority of the Daniels families that originated in Connecticut descend from John Daniels of New London, Connecticut.
BigY700 testing in 2019 & 2020 determined that descendants of John Daniels of New London, Connecticut and those of James Daniel/Daniels of Chester Co., Pennsylvania share the same haplogroup. James Daniel/Daniels immigrated directly from Ireland in the 1720's to 1730's and died in Chester County in 1759. He had two sons that immigrated, John and James. The younger James also died in 1759 without issue. His will makes bequests to siblings, nieces and nephews in the Kingdom of Ireland. His brother, John had many descendants and two have taken the BigY700 test.
In November 2021, several members of lineage 9 in the Hoolihan project upgraded to the BigY700 project. The first results have initially shown the same haplogroup as the Daniels of New London, CT and Chester Co., PA origin. FTDNA is reviewing the private variants and additional related haplogroups are being created. The Hoolihan project include several name variants including Wholihan, Wholehan, Houlihan and Holland. The lineage that has BigY matches with the other Daniels lines originated in County Cork in Ireland. This is great news and shows the value of BigY700 testing.
