Surname began in early 1800's in Nova Scotia as a permutation/anglicanization of the Hessian soldier Heinrich Schenig. It was first noted in the birth of his second youngest son, David ussell on his baptismal certificate David was the only child registered at St Paul's the others having been listed at St George's. From there the surname survived only through Heinrich's daughter
