About us
This DNA project centralizes, connects, informs, & assists surname Jardine (or variants) genealogy, & is wide open to interested members. DNA tools of autosomal & Y-DNA have clarified relatedness and lineage pedigrees tremendously. In promoting DNA testing for genealogy & trying to keep research as up-to-date as possible, we follow the ISOGG (International Society of Genetic Genealogy). Expectations are 1. to provide name & a date of an earliest surely-known ancestor in your line, 2. to maximize connectedness with an autosomal test, then put in Gedmatch.com so not limited to one testing company, 3. to attempt maximized Y-DNA testing on a male in each distinguishable lineage, & 4. to support others' DNA testing for genealogy.
The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Winfredus de Jardine. This was dated 1150 a.d., when he was a charter witness in the records of the abbeys of Kelso and Arbroath. This was during the reign of David 1st, king of Scotland, 1124 - 1153.
