About us
The Jacob(s) project seeks to clarify relationships amongst all persons with the surname Jacobs and its variants
We descendants of the Jacobs family share common ancestors & are clearly positioned on branches of these Y chromosome and mitochondrial DNA family trees. These positions help clarify, in time and place, family history & our degree of relatedness to other families, especially in prehistoric times from 75,000 years ago to about 5000 years ago, when many "Terminal SNPs" were established. If people have children at an average of 25 years old, then a generation is 25 years and 5000 years ago is 20 generations ago, when the average "Terminal SNP" was established and inherited by all biological descendants. A first goal in genetic genealogy is to discover your haplogroup, in general, and your Terminal SNP, in particular.
