Records attest the presence of Iyer/Iyengar/Gurukkal/Bhat etc. in the regions of present day South India and Sri Lanka since the Sangam period. The goal of this project is to study the diversity and trace the ancient ancestry of today's descendants of these groups. Ideally, participants would have at least one direct ancestor who belonged to these groups. But anyone curious may join. Please provide ancestry information available for the earliest ancestor, who belonged to this group. Also provide Gotra if you share a paternal ancestor from this group.
