About us
This project brings together descendants of the inhabitants of the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands are an interesting region from the genealogical point of view: its relatively closed population and inter-family marriages give a very high probability that two persons with ancestors from the Canary Islands are indeed related. Important migratory movements have placed descendants of the Islands in both South and North América. Furthermore, the mixed population of indigenous people (of Berber origin), Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italians, Flemish, etc provide an exciting genetic pool to be researched. The goal of the project is to find our common roots.
Please note that this is a Family Finder project and only handles autosomal results.

Where to start?
Please have a look around. The group has just started so we need to make it grow. Here is what you can do:
- Say hi on the activity feed, tell the group who you are and what your connection to the islands is.
- If you haven't done so, please upload your Family Finder results to Gedmatch.com. It allows comparing with a greater community as well as between those of us that FTDNA does not flag as matches. If you need help uploading your data to Gedmatch please ask in the main feed.
- As the group grows we'll be able to have soms statistics and analysis of the conenctions among us. Unfortunately FTDNA does not offer the same power for Family Finder groups than for the paternal and maternal ones, but there are some analysis that can be done by the group administrator and will be posted for the group members to see.
