About us

The Ingria project is for anyone with Ingrian roots. Around the 17th centrury, when Ingria belonged to Sweden, it was populated by mostly Lutheran Finns. According to some surnames, other nationalities than Finns might have been involved. For example, there are Swedish familynames and familynames that can be interpreted as Dutch and German.
The indigenous people of historical Ingria were the Orthodox Izhorians, along with the Votes.
