After doing research in New York State, the written record of the Hughson Family is not sufficient to define the linage of the various Hughson family members. It is hoped that through DNA analysis this picture will become clearer. The Hughson Family is a very old name in America, there were a number of Hughsons in the Revolutionary War, mostly in New York. In 1800 there were 16 Hughson entries in the United States Census with all but one living in New York State. By 1850 there were 177 Hughson men listed in the Census, with 104 living in New York State. The vast majority of these Hughson men were born in America.

Between 1820 and 1850, 21 men named Hughson immigrated to the United States, 15 came from New Brunswick, Canada, 5 from Liverpool, England and 1 from Marseille, France.

There are many variations in spelling of the Hughson name, as you will find if you try to trace a family in the historical records.

Most of the Hughson descendants are living in the British Isles, the United States and Canada.
