About us
The Hopkinson YDNA study is a surname study for males with the surname Hopkinson.
The Hopkinson surname shows up in the 1400's in England. By the 1700's there were large numbers of Hopkinsons Norhtern England in Lincolnshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire. One of the goals of this YDNA study is to see if the various branches of Hopkinsons located throughout Northern England are all from an original single ancestor or if there are more than one originators of the Hopkinson surname.
I am recommending participants start out with the YDNA 37 marker kit. This should give us a good data to show us if two Hopkinsons have a common ancestor, but it the common ancestor may be back a couple hundred years.
