About us

It is likely that most Hollenbecks and Hallenbecks living in the United States today descend from Casper Jacobse, of unknown origin, who settled in Beverwijck, Nieu Nederlandt, now known as Albany, New York. Many claim that Casper came from Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany/southern Denmark while others argue that he came from Holland. Wherever he originated, Y-DNA testing now proves that multiple sources exist for this surname, and Casper can no longer take ALL the credit. We will endeavor to help identify the many distinct Hollenbeck and Hallenbeck families currently existing worldwide. If you are a member of a Hollenbeck family or a Hallenbeck family or one of its many variants, welcome! If you are a male member of one of these families, we strongly urge you to test your Y-DNA with Family Tree DNA, if you have not already done so, and join our project. We cooperate with a parallel Hollabaugh Surname Project which traces the ancestors of that surname and its variants. Please join that project if you are more likely related to them. If your variation of the Surname is missing and should be included, please contact a project administrator and we will be eager to add your variation to the our list. All relations are welcome, male or female, if you would like to join the group.
