This project's primary goal is to determine the origin and relationship of the Henard family. The surname and variants are found in France, Ireland, the UK, the USA, Canada, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Germany. Due to the large variations in spellings, anyone with a variant listed below or similar ones are welcome to join. Most are very uncommon so this group serves to help sort out family groups. A few main DNA groups have been identified so far. Henard- R-DF85* Hennard- J-M241* Henstrand- R-U106 Henwood- R-Z9 Those that may not necessarily have Y-DNA tested are welcome to join. MtDNA and AtDNA can both be used to help establish relationships and family groups. Presently, Henard and related spellings can be found in several major groups. Lower Normandy, Ile de France, Lorraine, and Picardie are major locations in France. Germany has a concentration in the northern part of the state of Bayern. In the United States, Henards are found in East Tennessee, Maryland/Virginia, Arkansas, and Texas. There is a significant concentration of Henwoods in Nova Scotia.
