EXCITING NEWS! DNA results are in from 36 male Hazel (all spellings) descendants. Subgroup #1 Highlighted in Yellow on the chart Three sets of markers suggest a common ancestor for descendents of Richard and Margaret Hazel, whose son, Daniel Hazel, was born in 1746, probably in Virginia. He died Pope County, Illinois. At one time it was thought this line was connected to that of Caleb Hazel, but the Y-DNA markers have proven they are not related.Subgroup #2 highlighted in blue on the chart Nine sets of markers indicate Caleb, Ignatius and Elisha are somehow related, proving out the theories of many researchers based on their paper trails. Of these nine, five descend from Caleb, one descends from Ignatius, and two descend from Elisha &/or the St. Mary's County, Maryland bunch. At least one St. Mary's County, Maryland descendent shows connections to Barbados, though their Y-DNA does not match that of two other participants who trace their ancestry to Edward Hassell of Barbados, born 1640.Subgroup #3 highlighted in green on the chart Descendents of James S. Hazel, b1807 in SC match descendents of Henry Hazel who was in Edgefield County, SC in 1850. A matching participant who lives in Stockholm has his line traced to Zakarias Hassellöf, 1730, Ohr, Sweden. Subgroup #4 highlighted in pink on the chart Two of five sets of markers link a Hassell line of Barbados and John Hassell born 1590 in England.Subgroup #5 highlighted in gold on the chart Represents 2 sets of matching yDNA markers, one of them a descendent of Samuel Hasell, born about 1752, Sudbury, Suffolk, England and the other, John Mardenborough Hassell, born 1846, died 1907, NeAntilles.Subgroup #6 highlighted in magenta on the chart Represents 2 sets of matching yDNA markers,representing descendents of John Hazel of Nova Scotia. The remaining markers have not yet found matches. We congratulate all of you who have made giant leaps in the validation of your ancestry and research through the science of Y-DNA. For those of you whose results have produced no matches yet, please remember that your markers have been established and will be there as benchmarks for those who continue to join the process.
