About us
This surname project was started as a collaboration focus point for the Hazard surname in the American colonies (including Canada and NewFoundland).
The first known Hazard in the american colonies was Thomas Hazard (1610-1680) from England(Wales?) in approximately 1635. The family history of the descendants of Thomas Hazard is well documented in several publications with the most notable listed as follows:
"Recollections of Olden Times" by Thomas Robinson Hazard and Willis Pope Hazard, published 1878
"Nailer Tom's Diary, otherwise The Journal of Thomas B. Hazard of Kingstown Rhode Island 1778 to 1840", by Caroline Hazard
This group is primarily focused on the distribution of Y-DNA from the descendants of Thomas Hazard 1610-1680. The current set of Y-DNA testing it is clear that Thomas Hazard (1610-1680) was most likely NOT the only contributor of the surname Hazard and yDNA in the american colonies.
This group welcomes anyone interested in the Hazard surname but we are predominately interested in the following:
1) Individuals with the Hazard* surname and documented ancestral linage to Thomas Hazard (1610-1680).
2) Individuals who have the Hazard* surname
3) Individuals who have a yDNA match to any of the above.
State of yDNA testing
As of Jan 2020 there has been yDNA testing of several individuals who have documented lineage from Thomas Hazard (1610-1680).
These individuals are all base or subclades of haplogroup of R-M269.
