About us

The Hatcher DNA project was started in 2002 its purpose was to help sort out the Hatcher families through DNA testing.

It was also designed to break through those brick walls.

Our continuing goal is to link all Hatcher families worldwide through DNA testing.  This information will help all Hatcher researchers verify their traditional research and identify other directions for further study.

This project is open to anyone of the Hatcher surname, or if you believe  being a part of this group will benefit your research.

The database of the Hatcher Family Genealogy Association is located at https://hatcherfamilyassn.com/

The largest group of men in our project are those who descend from William "the immigrant" Hatcher, 1613-1680, HenricoCo, VA. This family is the largest of several distinct Hatcher families in this country with a known immigrant, William Hatcher, who arrived c1634-36 in HenricoCo, VA. William's 4 sons were William, Edward, Benjamin, and Henry. With some exceptions for Not Parent Expected (NPEs), all those testers whose documentation has shown a connection to this William have matched each other.

There were several distinct Hatcher families in England, and we have descendants of some of those families in this project. So far, we have found none who match William, above. We also have some Hatcher families who adopted that surname when they immigrated to the United States. We welcome descendants of these men as well.

Our project is open to anyone with an interest in Hatcher genealogy and origins. Kits that are the most use to us would come from any man with a Hatcher surname, or any man of any surname whose DNA matches a known Hatcher family (i.e., Burton men who have Hatcher DNA). We are interested in investigating all such connections.

In our administration of this Project we endeavor to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation 2017 and with the most recent editions of FTDNA’s Terms (www.familytreedna.com/legal), of the Genetic Genealogy Standards (www.geneticgenealogystandards.com/), and of ISOGG’s guidelines (https://isogg.org/wiki/ISOGG_Project_Administrator_Guidelines).
