About us
WELCOME to the Harp Surname Project! DNA testing is a great way to further your research! The Harp Family Project seeks to find common heritage through sharing of information and DNA testing. All variant spellings are welcome. If your surname is missing and should be included, we'll be glad to add it. Please add your family to the Patriarch Page. We believe, due to the number of Harp families, that it may be feasible to identify all existing major Harp yDNA clades and subclades as well. If your surname is not Harp, but your are a descendant of a Harp in another line then you are just as welcome here. Even though someone doesn't carry the yDNA of the Harp ancestor, you are still descended from that person and a member of the Harp family. If that ancestor had not lived neither would you or any of the rest of his descendants whether they carry his yDNA or not.
The Project's Website displays Y-DNA test results for all project members, and other information about the Surname Project.
YOUR PERSONAL TEST information and resources are on your "MyFTDNA PAGE", at www.familytreedna.com
- Log in at FTDNA using your kit number and the password FTDNA sent you.
- Provide EARLIEST KNOWN PATERNAL ANCESTOR by clicking on "Most Distant Ancestor" under "Manage Personal Information" and then "Genealogy". This information will be included with your results on the next update of the Results Page. If you do not know your most distant paternal ancestor before your father then your father is your most distant paternal ancestor. If this is the case then put your father's name in this place. If you do not wish for your father's name to be public, just place Harp (in any related spelling) in the space indicated. If your most distant related ancestor does not carry the Harp surname (such as for a member whose paternal line is not Harp, but who has Harps in other lines of their tree), please put the surname of your paternal line in the space. Please do not leave any spaces blank. Please enter something even if it is just N/A or Unknown.
While we welcome those who have taken any DNA test at FTDNA (yDNA, Family Finder, or mtDNA), only the yDNA test results are posted on the Results Page. Surname Projects use yDNA test results to find matches, as yDNA is passed down from father to son, just as the surname is passed down. If there is no Harp yDNA test in this Surname Project to represent your family line, we encourage you to find a Harp male to yDNA test to represent your line in the project.
