About us

Research by Rev. Carl Thurman Smith, Edwin L. Weaver and others have the earliest Haldemans arriving in Pennsylvania between 1718 and 1733, originating in Canton Bern, Switzerland. They were part of the Swiss Mennonite migration to America.

There have been various spellings of the surname including Haldeman, Haldemann, Haldimann, Haldemenn, Halderman, Halterman, Haltermann, Haldimand, Heldeman, Holdeman, Holderman, Holdman, Holdiman, Holterman, Hulderman and possibly others.

The purpose of this Y-DNA project is to determine how the Haldeman earliest known ancestors (EKA) are related. The project is open to DNA matches in the United States, Switzerland, Canada, Holland or other countries possibly taking the lines further back.

The Haldeman project is accepting matches with all variations of the Haldeman surname; males that match at Y-DNA 37 or greater but have a different surname; and Haldeman matches that only have taken the FTDNA FamilyFinder test.
