About us
The Gutekunsts are an old linage of farmers originating from the eastern foothills of the Black Forest Mountains in south-western Germany. In the Nagold Valley we first find them in the village of Oberschwandorf where a Michel Guttikunst is listed as witness in a book of pious church donations in 1427.
From Oberschwandorf the family spread in the 16th century to neighboring villages.
Today we know of 3 distinct lines that do not connect by conventional parish registers data. These are the Oberschwandorf Line, the Gündringen-Schietingen Line and the Haiterbach Line.
DNA testing will help us to establish:
- whether these 3 lines indeed descend from a common ancestor,
- whether DNA mutations occurred, that will enable us to distinguish between the 3 lines and help Gutekunsts who do not know from which branch they descend to establish their lineage.
- whether families like the GuteNkunst, Goodykoontz and Goodart share the same ancestry.
